Playing in 7/8 – Part Two

Leading on immediately from part one, I delve into how to get more comfortable with 7/8 and playing with this vamp in particular. Being able to play 16th’s, 16th note triplets and 32nd notes over this riff (or anything) is not only great for fills and soloing but will also improve your groove playing as your overall comfort in 7/8 (or with this particular vamp or anything else) will improve.

No need to run before you can walk or get frustrated that you can’t play the faster note rates…just take it very slow and start with 16th notes as single strokes and gradually move from the snare to orchestrating around the toms and then when you’re comfortable you can move away from only singles and start to play singles AND doubles.
