Vocab Lesson – 32nd Note Fill Ideas – Part One

Quite a few requests have come in for vocabulary ideas in 32nd notes so here we go with some cool patterns utilising the paradiddle-diddle and some single strokes. Don’t be put off by the speed at which I demo some of these phrases. It took me a long time to get to that speed and still whenever I’m learning a new sticking I go VERY slow for a long time until the sticking is totally memorised. Part two and three coming soon!

  • Louie the accents that you are doing with left hand, are they rim shots ? Or are you just accenting hard in the center of the snare with no rim shots? I can’t really see it well because of the speed.

    • Hi Nelson. Yes…pretty much all of my snare drum accents, no matter what it might be, are rim shots. That group of singles with the last left hand accent…that’s a rim shot. That pattern can be tough with that accent at higher speeds but it’s great practice for your rim shot consistency.
