Ruffs & Rolls – Part 1

Left hand lead is a great way of improving your hand technique and control. These very simple phrases, that we all know, are very important to practice, particularly leading with the left hand. Buddy Rich used the 4-stroke ruff a lot and it always sounded so amazingly clean. The goal is to be able to play the ruff at will and have it sound crisp.

  • I’ve been doing this for a while now and also playing 3 stroke rolls round the Toms/Kit.. I’m starting to see and feel the benefit! is there a part 2 out already Louie, or is this something you can put out?? Be keen to look at longer sticking variations.! Thanks, Matt.

    • Cool! I’ll look into doing another part but the 3’s really lend themselves to being moved around the kit while still sounding musical…longer groupings don’t sound as good.
