Play-Along Lesson – ‘Vibing’ Loop

Here’s a lesson on one of the loops from my new play-along loop package (available at louiepalmer.com). This track, ‘Vibing’, is really fun to play to and offers a lot of room to work on your groove and improvising. All these loops are 20+ min long ready for you to jump in!

I had a good time playing along with this last night . It made me think of what the “groove/fill” relationship. What i learned is that playing a groove needs to start simple, very simple , and expand on the groove literally a note at a time , a phrase at a time . And as I progress , adding a “fill” is not really adding a fill , but more a “expanding on the groove ‘ , so the line gets blurred between groove and fill till one gets to the point where the groove disappears and your left with pure Solo/fill . The Disiplin for me is to focus on groove and add to it gradually . The fills will come naturally. Very Cool.

    • Yes, exactly! This kind of practice is great for developing your sense of taste. Try to record yourself if you can so you can listen back.
