Lick of the Month – April 2024 (Special guest Steve Pruitt)

For the first time we have a speical guest conducting a LOTM lesson! Steve Pruitt is a good friend and an incredible drummer. It’s always interesting seeing how different players play and teach, and it’s important to seek information and instruction from a variety of sources.

Steve’s lesson and phrase is a GREAT example of thinking musically and NOT thinking of stickings as the driving force. He had a small musical phrase/syncopation in his mind and THEN applied a sticking around that phrase to create the 32nd note fill. Always think music first and stickings later!
