HI Louie! Dude, what is that stack/fx cymbal on your right side over the 14 floor tom? It looks like at least an 18? It sounds amazing! I am still looking for the right stack for me but I have not found one that I am in love with..Also If you have any recommendations I would appreciate it. Thanks Louie, James

    • Yes, it’s nice, right? I discovered it by accident really…it’s a 20” Traditional Medium crash on top of a 22” Byzance Jazz Thin ride. The 20” is just a pretty standard crash…I think it’s the 22” underneath that makes it what it is…that cymbal is very thin. I never used it so thought it might make a good base. Only downside is it’s quite big.

Thanks Louie, do you have any suggestions regarding stacks? I am not familiar with Meinl cymbals (I play mostly Zildjian and Paiste)..That is rather large but I guess thats how you get that great sound..(have you tried it with smaller cymbals?).. Thanks. James

    • Have tried a few other options but it works best with that 22″ underneath. Meinl and most of the other companies have pre-made stacks that you can buy off the shelf. Meinl has a few Matt Garstka stacks that are great and Sabian’s XSR stack is cool. If you go to Meinl’s YouTube channel you can check out tons of artists playing various setups…many have different stacks and the videos always list the cymbals used. Worth sifting through to see if anything catches your ear & then you can see what they used.

  • You never fail to turn on a new part of my brain. Such a fabulous lesson with the opportunity to practice dynamics (I am especially drawn to bar 2).
