Great stuff Louie. When it comes to the 32nd note doubles, are you looking to play both strokes with the same dynamics or accenting the second.. or first? I’m working quite a bit on my doubles with the second stroke accented to improve their feel an evenness. Should I be looking to do that here too or focus on the duration and getting the reps in? Cheers!
Hi Matt – they should be unaccented full strokes. Just try to aim for the same dynamics for both notes. Spending too much time learning to accent the 2nd stroke can lead to them sounding uneven, in my opinion. The resistance from the pad will do the job of making your hands stronger and more able to get the second note to be strong.
Great, thank you.
My daily warm up just got an upgrade. Thanks Louie, man, this was useful to see exactly how you do it.
Great!
When I do these types of exercises I tend to loose technique when I get tired. Should I continue nevertheless? Something else I’m concerned about is injury’s.
It’s natural to lose the grip a little as you get to that extreme fatigue point…thats a sign (combined with the hand being exhausted) to have a break. It’s just about trying as much as possible to keep the technique together & trying to keep going…
As for injuries – you should never play through any kind of pain. Fatigue is not pain. Working out hard on the tennis court or football field isn’t painful…it’s tiring. So as long as there’s no sharp pain then its fine to push through some fatigue.
If you have any pain then it’ll be a technique issue; we could work on this in a private lesson.
