  • That stuff that starts at 15:48 is amazing and makes me want to practice some Latin independence. One of the things I find most difficult is freeing up my right hand

    • Make sure you practice lots of finger control. You will see lots of info on this in the hand technique course. It’s important to really have confidence playing patterns in French grip position with the fingers.

  • Great playing Louie, I do this quite a bit but always wonder if I’m doing it to avoid the actual practice of learning new stuff! Also conscious of running out of vocabulary too but do do trip over stuff that I can then go further with. I’ll now do it guilt free 😁! and not worry about whether I’m using time effectively…

    • Well, we’re all guilty of noodling and playing stuff we already know…BUT, there’s only so much new stuff one can learn..there has so be a lot of time put in to polishing what you do know. After all, we all know that hearing Gadd play a groove is amazing…and it’s not amazing because of all the complicated stuff he knows. It’s amazing because his foundation is strong and the key elements are highly polished & the level of execution is high. That takes a lot of time & effort. There are only so many hours in the day so you definitely need to spend a good chunk of time practicing ā€˜playing’ and putting things together…and don’t feel guilty for it. As long as you’re concentrating & not mindlessly noodling, then it’s not wasted time at all.

  • Really love that 13″ for the heavier rolls down the toms (and back up). It just sounds meatier and more badass.

  • Amazing material for future content on PBD!! The lick-movement at 10:05 Lick Of The Month video, please!! The compings swing phrasing at 16:30 is something I would like to see on a Vocab video. The Yamaha kit sound amazing!
