Lick of the Month – July 2026

This month’s lick is a group of 9 phrased in 16th note triplets. There’s been a few of these over the years; I love the way 9’s sound in triplets. Make sure to pay attention to dynamics and get the pattern going with the left foot keeping time!

  • Hi Louie, I noticed the new Tom heads? Assuming they are UV1’s (clear), any reason for the change and is there a difference? Also are they easier to tune as opposed to a 2 ply head (UV2’s)? Thanks , James

    • These are G12 clears…same as the recent coated heads I’ve been using but just without the coating. I just wanted to try them to get a little more attack when using the bigger rack toms. I like them but there’s more guts from the coated G12’s or coated G2’s if you want double-ply.
