Drum Hangs – Thomas Lang Duet

For this little duet we were playing in 4 bar phrases – every four bars we both had to change the pattern we played – could be a groove, fill or anything at all but had to be a different four bar pattern each time. It makes for a much more musical drum duet (rather than the typical drum battle) but is much more challenging than you might think.

I wasn’t as inventive as I could have been; I was tied to more ‘groove’ patterns too much. By the time you’ve chosen one pattern to play you have a split second to think of the next one. It’s great practice though.
