New Studio Tour 2023

New studio! Here’s a detailed rundown of the gear and the new space! Very early days in terms of getting sounds and testing mic positions but you’ll hear some examples of how the drums sound in here.

Hey Louie! Great new setup, congrats! I was surprised you don’t have a mic on the bottom side of the snare. You still get such a great snarey sound though. I’m sure it’s partially due to great tuning as always, but do the overheads and room mics contribute to that extra snarey-ness coming thru? I find in my particular home studio setup if I don’t have a bottom snare mic, I have trouble getting enough of that snare timbre in the mix. Cheers!

    • Thanks! I’ve never liked the sound of a bottom snare mic. It might be the way I tune or place the mic but, like you say I get plenty of snares from that one mic. I do think the OH’s and rooms contribute 100%. I like those to be the drivers and then I bring in the snare and tom mics to taste. I sometimes end up turning the snare mic down a lot and let the rooms and OH’s get it. Cannot recommend room mics enough for small setups…even if it’s just one mono mic.
