Hi Louie, I am interested in the Flex-Beater and I currently use the DW 9000 Double Pedal. I also feel my single doubles need work and if this pedal can help my single pedal playing I want one (lol)…Do you think the Flex Beater would work well on a DW 9000 using 2 of course?? Thx, James

  • Thanks for the insight into the sticks Louie. I’ve just committed to switching to the Marco M stick after using a pair on a pad for a while and a couple of practice sessions. Their not cheap though! But I think (and hope) they’ll last twice as long the VF NE1’s I have been using. Same AB thickness but a shorter taper and touch heavier which was the the biggest thing to get used. NE1’s came in at about 49grams, Marco’s stick comes in at 56g. Just took a little time to adjust my playing to let the stick do a bit more work.
I think the 16 1/2 inch would be too long for me but would be interesting to see how they compare to the 16. Is the extra length at the Butt end or is the taper a touch longer? Cheers, Matt.

    • These are 16 1/4…and just longer at the butt end…taper is exactly the same. The tip sounds perfect on cymbals but I don’t love the feel on drums.

      • Ah, thanks for confirming the length. Yes as per a lot of other comments there always seems to be a slight comprise everywhere.

Great video Louie. Always appreciate how much depth you put into these topics. I’m in my 50’s now and still don’t think I’ve settled on 1 stick. Depends what I’m playing at the time.
BTW have you done any videos on the comping type stuff you’re doing at 4:30-5:00 marks? That’s a seriously good topic too.
    Thanks.

Hi Louie. I’ve given the Flex-Beater a try (medium weight) and can confirm that it works as advertised. The feel is as you described and helps fast doubles stay well behaved. Thanks for the recommendation! Like Dean Constable, I’d love to see a breakdown of what you’re doing in the video at the 4:30 mark. That’s a real nice feel and looks like a handy bit of control practice. Cheers and thanks for a great resource that’s low on B.S.!
